Fire-Dex, LLC has been in business since 1983, initially producing welding gloves. The company entered the Fire Service market with fire fighter gloves in 1984, knit hoods in 1985 and gear bags and suspenders in 1986. In 1988, Fire-Dex started manufacturing fire fighting structural clothing, proximity clothing and EMS clothing, and today structural fire fighting gear represents Fire-Dex's largest product line. In 2001, Fire-Dex expanded their product line to include Wildland fire fighting clothing, and in 2003, added USAR (search & rescue apparel).

The Growth & Innovation Continue Today

A long history of innovation and development has meant growth of company facilities, too. In 1997, Fire-Dex built a new corporate headquarters in Medina, Ohio, establishing Fire-Dex as one of the largest fire fighter clothing manufacturers in North America. Fire-Dex has also fulfilled the world's largest order to-date for firefighter jackets, delivering a 19,000-piece order.

In 2008, Fire-Dex purchased Chieftain Safety Manufacturing. This has expanded Fire-Dex's line of PPE, and customers will also have access to fire fighter helmets through Fire-Dex.

Bill Burke, president of Fire-Dex and finalist for the 2008 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, attributes the company's growth to their commitment to continuous improvement. "Continuing that growth as a company is a challenge, but one we don't even think about backing off of. It is part of our company policy."
