How to dispose of rechargeable batteries

Did you know that most batteries can't be thrown away?
Because of the chemicals used in many types of batteries, local laws often prohibit their disposal in municipal waste. If you can't throw them in the trash though, how do you get rid of those old batteries?

You can recycle them. Programs exist for organizations and government entities to safely dispose of batteries. This reduces risk to the public, by removing potentially hazardous wastes, and it also makes your agency look good to the public by being efficient with its waste disposal. Below are two programs that can help you recycle your old batteries:
