November Recap - Public Safety Grants

The biggest news in November grants was the release of the final winners of the 2006 USSTC Polaris Ranger 6x6 Utility Vehicle Donation Program. This program is one of the most popular – and most competitive – available. Congratulations to all the departments getting one of these great vehicles. If your department lost out on this round, don't despair – the Polaris Ranger program is open again, and accepting applications through Dec. 29.

We also want to send out a hearty "Congratulations!" to a heap of fire departments and law enforcement agencies around the country. Emails have been coming in right and left from winners in the ONDCP, CEDAP and AFGP programs. For programs such as ONDCP, a lot of law enforcement agencies have been awarded much-needed night vision equipment. In AFGP, so far we've helped fire/rescue departments nationwide win over $6 million in vehicles and PPE. Congrats to all of you! See our testimonials for their success stories.

Cost Share Requirement for FY 2006 Fire Prevention and Safety Grant

The 2006 Fire Prevention and Safety Grant program will officially open at 8 a.m. on December 4, and close January 12 at 5 p.m. There is a significant change in this year's program guidance: There will be a cost share requirement for fire departments participating in this grant. AFGP "Dear John" Letters Are on the Way – Begin Your 2007 AFGP Application Now

According to program sources, the first round of rejection letters is being sent for the FY 2006 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP). These rejection notices indicate that you did not "beat the computer" and have problems in the front part of your grant application, so you did not make it to the critical "peer review" panel. What do you do if your department receives an AFGP "Dear John"? It's simple: Get a head start on your 2007 application.
