Grant News By Kurt Bradley, CHIEF Grants Consultant
October Recap - Public Safety Grants
If you're a fire department, then October has been a huge thrill or a lot of waiting (probably a little swearing too). On Oct. 6, DHS announced the first round of FY 2006 AFGP awards, awarding a total of $91.8 million to 860 fire departments nationwide. Due to the fiscal year changeover, the following 2 weeks had no awards, but we finished out the month with a second award round posting on Oct. 27.
For law enforcement, two popular programs are open for applications. Make sure you don't miss out on the high-tech and tactical gear offered through the Special Program Assistance for Needed Tactical Officer Assets (SPANTOA). Tackling gang problems and trying to foster better relations between police, youth and the community? Then the Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT) program just may be what your agency's looking for.
Homeland Security spending legislation for 2007 has also been passed. The legislation included funding allocations for grant programs including the FIRE grant program, UASI grants, state and local assistance grants, and law enforcement terrorism prevention grants. Learn more: Congress Passes Homeland Security Spending Legislation for FY 2007
Also for fire departments, the D.H.S. Fire Prevention & Safety Grant program (FP&S) will open soon for FY 2006 applications. Want to write an application for something other than the usual smoke alarms and fire trailers? Contact Kurt Bradley for some exciting new FP&S grant ideas, including the next-generation fire blanket, PyroBlanket!
