Recycle Your Rechargeable Batteries

Did you know that most batteries can't be thrown away? Because of the chemicals used in many types of batteries, local laws often prohibit their disposal in municipal waste. If you can't throw them in the trash though, how do you get rid of those old batteries?

You can recycle them. Programs exist for organizations and government entities to safely dispose of batteries. This reduces risk to the public, by removing potentially hazardous wastes, and it also makes your agency look good to the public by being efficient with its waste disposal. Below are two programs that can help you recycle your old batteries:

If so, read this special information about Motorola's no-charge recycling program:

To continue providing our customers with a no-charge recycling program, Motorola is maintaining its licensee standing with the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC), a non-profit organization founded to promote the recycling of rechargeable batteries. This license allows Motorola’s customers to be eligible to use this program and recycle their rechargeable batteries purchased in the U.S. and Canada. This agreement does not cover shipping charges unless your business elects to purchase recycling pales from RBRC. Please see program details for ordering information.

To take advantage of the no charge service offered through the RBRC program, participants must complete this form (PDF format), and indicate in the appropriate box whether you are a Business/Public Agency or a Retail Business. Then fax it to (678) 419-9986 and the RBRC will provide you with a RBRC Shipper ID Number and necessary information to initiate your battery-recycling program. If you have any questions regarding the RBRC you may call them at 1-800-822-8837 or visit them online. Please note, in some states you will continue shipping your batteries to INMETCO, however, your shipments must have the RBRC Shipper ID in order for INMETCO to accept them without charge.
