Chief Steve Hasten, Ravenna VFD
My thanks go out to you and your company for sharing all the info and wisdom that years of service to our industry can provide to small rural departments such as ours. Technology, ie computers, internet, has been invaluable in assisting us in remote areas with obtaining the help needed, but it is so much more understandable, personal, when you get to attend an event such as yours in person and meet with the person on the other end of the e-mails. Again, thanks to the Aledo FD, Chief Simmons and Kurt Bradley.

Stephanie Floyd, Secretary, Kempton Fire & Rescue

Winner, 2005 AFG
I really enjoyed Kurt's grant writing seminar. It was simple and easy to understand. I would recommend this seminar to anyone who thinks that they can not get a grant award.

Kurt helped me write the first grant that I had ever written, prior to attending the seminar, and I was funded in the first few rounds of AFG with a fully funded grant of $36,000 for new SCBA and PPE. Thanks to Kurt and CHIEF our fire department has been able to replace several pieces of key equipment.

Kurt was available to help me throughout the grant-writing process with problems and questions. He provided a quick response and helped me locate the needed info to complete my grant. Kurt is very knowledgeable about the current and upcoming grants that were available. During the class Kurt taught me the inside tips to make my grant application stand out during the review process. Kurt explained the way that grant reviewers view grant applications and how funders decide who gets the dollars that they have available to award.

The class empowered me to realize that normal people can write grants to secure needed items for fire/ police departments since funding is constantly being reduced. I would highly recommend this seminar to anyone wanting to secure grant funding for needed equipment for a police/fire department.

Kurt & Margaret – I know when things don't go the way people plan, they complain. I'm sure you both hear complaints, so I thought I'd give you a success story. Since I attended the January, 2006 CHIEF Grants Seminar in Etters, Pennsylvania, my department has received approximately $140,000 in money and equipment. I'm pretty sure that more than makes up for the approximately $250 paid for the seminar! I have several more grants in the works. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the $140,000.00 amount will increase! Thank you for all the help you have given me since I got involved with you and your grant program.

From an AFGP Winner!
Chief Todd Myers, Community Fire Co #1, Riegelsville, Pennsylvania
In early March 2006, I attended a grant seminar held in the Willow Grove, Pennsylvania Fire House. I just want to express my gratitude for two well-spent days attending the seminar. With the knowledge I gained during those two days, we have just been notified from DHS of a Round One grant award under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program! Thanks very much for what you do to help the fire service.

Two out of three after taking your class is a testament that I indeed listened and took things to heart when I wrote the grants.

Patrolman Frank D. Mazzarella, Winfield Police Department, New Jersey

Margaret: I was in one of your grant writing courses held at Old Bridge Police Department. I am a patrolman from the Winfield Police Department. I was browsing for some open grants and I came across your name. I would just like to say that since your class, I was able to obtain over $100,000 in grant funds for a very small town.

Winfield is .18 square miles. It has 1,500 residents, with only 10 officers and three cars. I have obtained money for a new radio system and frequencies, MDCs for our vehicles, various Homeland Security equipment, and riot and crowd control gear. Now I am waiting to hear if I received any money for a new SUV (worth over $60,000) for our department for a "Mobile Command Vehicle" for our tiny town.

I am extending my thanks to you for me accomplishing these tasks. Thank you again.

Thank you Bushnell Basin Fire Department for hosting the CHIEF Grants Seminar. It was a very important and informative seminar. PVAC is planning to implement what we have learned to secure granted funds for our Corps. It was an excellent seminar, and BBFD's hospitality was exceptional. I thank you very much.

Leo Sokoloski, Chief of Police, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania
Margaret – Greetings from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. A brief note of thanks and appreciation: I recently attended your class in Newberry Township, Pennsylvania, and left with a great deal of good information. I thought you were well-prepared and very knowledgeable on the subject. Last week we were notified we received funding for night vision in the amount of $4,800 from a local foundation. We corresponded back and forth regarding this type of funding. Thanks for your assistance.

From an AFGP and Pennsylvania Department of Commerce and Economic Development Grant Winner!
Richard Weed, President, Worcester Volunteer Fire Department, Pennsylvania
Kurt: I just wanted to let you know that through your grant writing program at the Willow Grove Fire Department I was able to secure a $30,000 Grant from the PA Department of Commerce and Economic Development, as well as a $76,950 grant on the First Round of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This is fantastic!

Obviously the skills and knowledge that I acquired from your grant writing program gave me the ability, the understanding and the confidence to go after funding that our Department needs in order to provide firefighter safety and benefit our community. Thanks again for all of your assistance and for the commentaries on the drafts of the AFG narrative. Sometimes we need a re-boot on our thinking and approach to writing grants. Without a doubt I would recommend this program to anyone who is seeking grants.

Margaret did an excellent job. Her heart is in the right place and it is obvious that she is genuinely interested in helping Law Enforcement Agencies secure their funding needs. Handouts were appropriate and helpful. I definitely picked up some useful information. I will certainly recommend this seminar to my peers. Well worth the money.
