The COPS Office is pleased to announce the availability of funding under the COPS Secure Our Schools (SOS) 2007 grant program. Up to $15 million is available in FY2007 to provide funding to law enforcement agencies to assist with the development of school safety resources and provide improved security at schools and on school grounds.

Specifically, this program will fund up to 50% of the total cost to implement one or more of the following options:

  1. Placement and use of metal detectors, locks, lighting, and other deterrent measures,
  2. Security assessments,
  3. Security training of personnel and students,
  4. Coordination with local law enforcement, and/or
  5. Any other measure that may provide a significant improvement in security.

As noted above, there is a 50% local cash match requirement under this grant program.

The program is targeted to law enforcement agencies that previously applied for funding under the COPS in Schools program or have previously received COPS grants.
