What is the program? NACJD houses quantitative and qualitative data from NIJ’s sponsored research and makes it available online as downloadable, machine-readable files (in SPSS, SAS, or ASCII) together with data dictionaries, study abstracts, and, in limited cases, geographic data (in MapInfo or ESRI formats). The archive is maintained by the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) at the University of Michigan and is supported by NIJ. Learn more by visiting the Data Resources Program website at: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/nij/dataprog.htm The National Institute of Justice seeks proposals for secondary analysis to inform criminal justice policy and practice in the United States. Research proposals should either replicate original findings or, preferably, test new hypotheses with existing data from the NACJD. NIJ will give preference to research that asks compelling crime and justice questions over research that furthers statistical methods or technical refinement of data sets. Researchers interested in those latter categories should consider grants from the ASA/BJS Special Data Collections and Statistical Studies Research Program (http://www.amstat.org/research_grants/index.cfm?fuseaction=bjs).
