30 Years Public Safety & Grants Experience
Kurt retired from the Lake Alfred Police Department, in Central Florida, as a police lieutenant in 2001, with 30 years of law enforcement experience. He was the commander of the communications and criminal investigations division for his department. After the events of 9/11, Kurt served with his local FBI anti-terrorism task force. Kurt also was the grant writer for his city.

Upon retiring from law enforcement, Kurt worked for the City of Lakeland Housing Authority, writing grants for that agency to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). He also wrote grants to corporate and private foundations for social service programs. He was involved in the administration of the $24.5 million HUD HOPEVI grant awarded to the Lakeland Housing Authority and had responsibility for $3.2 million of social service programs for that agency. Kurt's work, while at this agency, resulted in several state and national recognition awards while he was employed there.

Kurt has attained an 78% funding success rate in obtaining grants since he began writing grants. Since 2004, the first year of CHIEF Grants' operations, Kurt has helped 112 departments win $8,397,566 in grant awards for programs such as AFGP, SAFER and FP&S. That's an average of over $75,000 per department!

Kurt has been published as a freelance magazine journalist to law enforcement publications and in trade publications for the housing industry. He was a staff columnist to several local newspapers and wrote a weekly law enforcement column. Kurt was the editor of his agency's newsletter and won both the FAHRO and SERC-NAHRO "Best Newsletter" awards for a housing agency in 2003.

His broad range of experience in public safety, grant writing and journalism makes him uniquely qualified to handle the needs of public safety agencies seeking grants to supplement their shrinking budgets.
