1199A forms are arriving at fire departments across the country, and that means only one thing awards for the FY2008 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP) are about to begin. Congressional notifications of 2008 AFG awards started arriving today, indicating that the first round of awards for the 2008 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program will be announced this Friday, July 4. Pre-award paperwork is currently being solicited from many departments for subsequent rounds, which will happen each Friday. There are usually 35-40 rounds of funding awards announced in this program yearly. Congratulations to all our clients and seminar students who have been successful and will be announced on the 4th! - Final Rejection Notices Sent for 2007 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program

The final round of "dear john" AFGP rejection letters has been released to FY2007 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program applicants. However, departments who received rejection notices may nonetheless be in a good position for future funding, said Kurt Bradley, Senior Grants Consultant. "The rejection letter should note if the department is eligible for FY2007 supplemental funds. Departments rejected at this stage are also highly likely to win awards for FY2008," said Kurt. "Most of their work is done. Update your application with current run call volumes, budget information and statistical data, send it to us for review, and then re-submit it for the upcoming FY2008 AFG program." - FY2007 Peer Review "Dear John" Rejection Letters Released

Over the last few days, DHS has sent out "dear john" letters to many FY2007 AFGP applicants who have not passed the peer review stage, according to CHIEF Grants consultant Kurt Bradley. The notices were delivered only to the personal email of the contact person listed on the grant and not posted to the online application mail site. "Applicants need to check their personal email closely for any communications," says Kurt. "If you have not received anything at this point, you should still be in the running for an Assistance to Firefighters Grant award."
