  • Two operating modes
    • Active: The subject participates by blowing into the cone of the instrument where a sample of breath is collected for analysis
    • Passive: The cone end of the instrument is placed in a space of air where alcohol may be present. This mode can be used without a subject's cooperation or can be used in the area above a drink to determine if it contains alcohol
  • Tri-Color LED Indicator Lights
    • Green: Person has not consumed alcohol
    • Amber: Person has a low level of alcohol (.010% to .020% BAC) in his/her body
    • Red: Person's bloodstream is carrying a high amount (> .020% BAC) of alcohol
  • Response Time: Approximately three seconds from sampling
  • Result Display Time: 3-5 seconds, depending on alcohol level
  • Reset Time: Two seconds at zero alcohol reading, less than 20 seconds at readings > .020% BAC
